reading.
finished cleopatra and frankenstein by coco mellors. (inhaled it, but if you do read, do a quick search for content warnings.) some favorite bits below.
and then read all around it.
interview with mellors for the talks: “i try to work very much as e.l. doctorow described it: ‘it’s like being in a car at night with only the headlights, and you can just see what's directly in front of you. and with just that information, you can travel a very long distance.’”
also read once more with feeling by elissa sussman. quick, frothy, and fun, though i couldn’t help but give notes on the depiction of a rehearsal process.
your weekly dose of stereophonic interview content. this one is paywalled (though there’s always this), so i’m including some favorite excerpts below.
and another one: this quite candid interview with will brill, who plays reg, on how his own life has informed his work on stereophonic.
and one more, though be warned it spoils some plot points of the show: another piece about the play’s creation. (who is doing press for stereophonic? because wow, they’re everywhere.)
this great interview with director michael greif on the three (three!) shows he directed on broadway just this season. i love, love, love reading about other directors’ processes. and i love when they reveal themselves to be bookworms, too.
“‘mitzvah night Is CANCELLED.’ inside the sex strike that has infuriated husbands and shaken the ultra-orthodox world.” aka lysistrata: orthodox edition. i’ve been wanting to make a play about getts and agunot for ages.
“being in love sutures you to the present.”
the latest from hot ghoul diaries. “vacation is awesome because you get to have a panic attack in a different local coffee shop.”
emily nussbaum investigates whether love is blind is a toxic workplace for the new yorker.
a quick tutorial on how to make google not garbage again.
gov. maura healey is expanding the bryt program, which was genuinely life saving for me in high school. so happy to see this.
seeing.

a reading of assisted, a beautiful new musical by julian hornik and adam chanler-berat, directed by annie tippe and music directed by simone allen. julian and simone are both friends of mine — simone from cruise adventures, and julian from college — and it genuinely brings me such joy to see both of them operating at the top of their game. so excited and hopeful for what’s next for this show. (also, earnest alert: even though i’ve graduated from child broadway fan to adult theater professional, i often think about how very excited my child self would be to have been sitting in the audience next to some of the stars i worshipped back then — and to actually have worked with some of them.)
the lonely few by zoe sarnak and rachel bonds, directed by trip cullman and ellenore scott, starring lauren patten and taylor iman jones at mcc. lauren and taylor were each in one of the first two shows i worked on when i moved to the city!
very interesting to watch rachel chavkin’s speech on lempicka’s closing night.
bridgerton and abbott elementary.
it’s giving me in high school.
birth vlogs on youtube (for rehearsal prep). no, i am not linking you. but i am sharing this caption.
hearing.
you already know it’s stereophonic on repeat. but when that wasn’t happening…
making.
training the next assistant director for another rose, since i’m not doing the next voyage. teaching rope tricks, planning for new immersive adventures, and talking about how to facilitate communication across departments.
script prep for cunnicularii. this has mostly been happening late at night — not even because i’m busy during the day, but because i’ve been most inspired in the evenings.
had our full cast and design team featured on broadwayworld! look at their beautiful faces.

had a production meeting. gave notes on costume sketches. planned rehearsal schedule with our stage manager. met with an actor to discuss process. edited a grant submission. started planning for a donor event. sent invitations. worked out how to say the title in ipa: /ˈkʌnɪkəˌlari/, in case you were wondering.
Dance moms and raclette 👌🏼✨
