i’m back in the world! i’m running down the street and dancing as i wait for the traffic light to change and buying little things in stores and hugging my friends! it is so good to be healthy again! may it last!
reading.
restarted and finished tom lake by ann patchett. i started listening to the audiobook of this over a year ago and once again utterly failed to be an audiobook person. i found it delightful and quite moving this time around. i am indeed fond of our town. also, was curious about the cover and am now obsessed with the explanation.
this unbelievably moving piece by timothy white, a former college classmate of mine mine, about his evangelical pastor father and how their relationship shifted and grew after timothy came out as gay. reader, i cried. so much of it reminded me of my own grandfather and his theological wrestling — as my grandmother vociferously argued for the full inclusion of gay people in the church, as my uncle publicly announced his atheism, as my sister and i came out as queer. what an extraordinarily generous piece for timothy and his father to have shared.
this stunning piece by the great hanif abdurraqib about apocalypse, a.i., parable of the sower, the l.a. fires, grief, and memory. so many highlights; a few are below.
this amazing piece about cozy games, which is actually a cozy game in itself. (strongly recommend looking at this one on desktop.)
“many books exist, but many more don’t.”
yes, i read the recently released “excerpt” of the you you are, an in-universe book from severance.
this article only made me want to see grand theft hamlet more.
this article about avoiding “creative savior complex.”
this article about a woman in love with her a.i. boyfriend. (i can picture hanif abdurraqib shaking his head.)
mia never misses. i love footnotes and i love citation and i love metatextuality.
seeing.

severance, obviously.
been playing a game called neva. it’s a beautifully animated platformer about a girl and her wolf friend. (i want a wolf friend.)
chappell roan on the grammys. did i tear up hearing the entire crowd sing the chorus of “pink pony club”? yes.
keke palmer vs. sza vs. issa rae on hot ones versus. also, bowen yang on hot ones.
hearing.
making.
finally finished my blocking score for in a grove. if you’re curious what blocking notes for an opera look like, see below. (proud of how this one turned out.)

sophie and i met up to visit the theater where we’ll be producing our next good apples show. we had to select a venue while i was out of town, so she toured it first herself with our lighting designer paige seber and reporter back. now that we’ve paid the deposit, i finally got to kick the tires a little (and officially meet joseph, the awesome dude who runs the space.) something extra fun is that we’ll be rehearsing in a studio a few floors up from the theater, and other than us, the main tenants will be a surfing exercise group, so the entire room is surf themed and filled with electric surfboards. tubular.

announced our next good apples collective coworking event, which will be saturday, march 1 from 2-6pm in the signature lobby. rsvp and come hang out with me! work on your artist website! meet some other artists! (it is also a great place to corner me if i have been slow in responding to your texts lately.)
